Fall Is Here – Is Your Patio Ready?

There’s nothing quite like fall! With the days of summer behind us, the leaves are turning into vibrant colors, everyone is setting out their fall decorations, and donning their warm and cozy sweaters. Now is the time to start preparing patios and outdoor living spaces for the cooler weather and continued enjoyment.
Clean Your Patio
Patios tend to endure a great deal of use throughout the summer and are due for a cleaning. First, check your gutters to see if they are getting backed up and clean them out, so they don’t spill over onto your patio if it rains. Sweep or blow off dirt or debris from your patio surfaces, including any walls or overhangs. And unless you’re striving for the spooky, haunted house look, knock down those spider webs too! Gently scrub down any remaining dirty areas with water and a mild soap, and check to see if any repairs are needed.
Clean Your Outdoor Furniture
Shake out furniture cushions and clean the covers. Switch out or replace with new ones, as needed. Dust off and wipe down furniture with a mild detergent and water. Furthermore, tend to any damage due to chipped paint or rust, and wood surfaces may need a fresh coat of stain. If you are not planning on using your furniture this fall, use furniture covers to protect them or store them away in your shed or garage.
Clean Your Grill
Now is a great time to scrub down your grill from the heavy use it sustained in the summer. Make sure to use a degreaser, soft cleaning cloth, and polish on stainless steel. If you don’t plan on using your grill into the fall and winter, make sure to protect it from the weather with a cover, or move it to a covered location away from the elements.
Refresh Your Landscaping
Spruce up your landscaping by giving it one last mow. Mulching your planting beds protects your plants and helps them retain moisture – it also provides a nice contrast to the plants, shrubs, and trees. Finally, clean up any dead flowers and plants and replace with some fresh colors for fall. Chrysanthemums, pansies, snapdragons, or the Texas aster are suitable choices for northern Texas.
Add An Outdoor Fireplace Or Fire Pit
If your current patio doesn’t seem fall-friendly, consider extending your outdoor season by adding an element of warmth – install an outdoor fireplace or fire pit. From functional to focal point, modest to extravagant, this addition can create a cozy outdoor environment to sit around with friends and family. Imagine warming yourself by the fire while roasting marshmallows or sipping on your favorite warm fall beverage. There are a variety of styles that can be designed to accommodate your outdoor space.
By creating a welcoming outdoor living space, you will look forward to spending time outdoors this fall. Invite your friends and family over to enjoy the fall colors and the crisp autumn air, while keeping warm and cozy – and don’t forget the pumpkin pie!
